The Mozambique 5,000 Meticais banknote is part of the 1991 issues. It is purple, red, brown, and green in color and measures 144 x 70 mm. The obverse side shows a Portuguese text, Samora Machel, the coat of arms, the FRELIMO monument in Maputo, and a reed inside cog as a registration device.

The reverse side features a Portuguese text, a reed inside cog, a bank logo, and four workers in a steel foundry. This banknote uses a solid security thread with printed MOMBIQUE and contains a watermark with a Joaquim Chissano design.
